Teknolojinin ilerlemesi ile alından kızılötesi ile temassız ateş ölçen derecelerin son zamanlarda kullanımı artmıştır. Eski civalı ateş ölçerlerin yerini alan bu elektronik cihazların kullanım şekli de oldukça basittir.
Bilindiği gibi cıvanın zararlı etkileri göz önünde bulundurulmuş ve civanın beden derecelerinde kullanımı yasaklanmıştır. Bunun yerine elektronik ateş ölçerler kullanılmaktadır.

Alından kızılötesi teknolojisi ile ölçüm yapan dereceler, aynı zamanda diğer maddelerin ve cisimlerin de (oda ısısı, biberon içindeki mama ısısı vb) ölçümünü yapabilmektedir.
Çalışma mantığı tamamen kızılötesi teknolojisidir. Yaklaşık olarak 10 cm uzağındaki nesneler ile kızılötesi alışverişi yaparak ölçümünü tamamlar.

Alından kızılötesi ile ateş ölçen derecelerin kullanımı çok basittir. Alın kısmına 5-10 cm uzaklıktan tutun ve tetiğe 1 saniye basın. Tetiği bıraktığınız da bip sesi duyacaksınız ve ölçüm tamamlanmış olacak. Ekranda rakamlar ile ölçüm sonucu belirtilecektir. Ekran ışığı kırmızı ise ateş yüksek, yeşil ise ateş normal demektir.
Tavsiyem alından ölçme ile kalmayın aynı şekilde vücudun başka bölgelerinden de ölçüm alın. Bazı durumlarda çocuklarda boğaz ve göğüs kısmının ateşi daha yüksek olabiliyor. Bunu yaparak ortalama vücut ısısı almış olursunuz.
Cihazı kullanırken vücut ısısı ölçmek için ayarını ‘body’ yazan kısıma getirmeniz gerekiyor. Herhangi bir madde veya cisim sıcaklığı ölçmek için ‘surface’ yani yüzeysel sıcaklık konumuna getirmeniz gerekiyor. Tabiki cihazlar arasında bu düğmeler değişkenlik gösterebilir. Farklı markalar çıktıkça farklı göstergeler olabilir.
Cihazın ayarlarını değiştirmek için ‘mode’ düğmesini ve tetiği kullanmanız gerekiyor. Santigrat (°C) olarak kalması gerekir. Fahrenheit (°F) günümüzde çok kullanılan bir ısı ölçü birimi değildir.
Bu konu hakkında hiç bir kaynak yok. Şüphesiz zaten böyle bir şeyin söz konusu olması halinde pediatri kurumları ve diğer ilgili kurumlar harekete geçerdi. Radyasyon yaydığı konusunda herhangi bilgi yok. Radyasyon ölçümü yapılarak bu durum netliğe kavuşabilir.
Yetişkin insanlarda 35 ila 43 derece arasında vücut ısısı görülebilir. Hastalık zamanında yetişkinlerde 40 dereceyi geçebilir.
Alından ölçülen ısı derecesi 36 ve 37 derece arası normal kabul edilir. İstisnai durumlarda (bebeğin sıcak ortamda bulunması ve kalın kıyafetler giydirilmesi gibi) 37 dereceyi geçebilir.
Şu zamanda en çok tercih edilen ve en çok kullanılan ateş ölçer tipleri alından, kulaktan ve koltuk altından ölçen derecelerdir. Hepsi güvenilir ve doğru ölçüm yapabilir.
